Climate change is one of the defining challenges of our time, affecting water security, agriculture, livelihoods, ecosystems, and the resilience of communities across India. Addressing it requires action across sectors rather than within a single programme.
The Tata Trusts integrate climate considerations across their portfolio, supporting interventions that reduce environmental impact while strengthening community resilience. These include climate-smart agriculture and livestock practices, water-efficient irrigation systems, renewable energy solutions such as solar-powered infrastructure, sustainable natural resource management, and approaches that promote more efficient use of land and water resources.
The focus is on enabling communities and institutions to adapt to a changing climate while contributing to a more sustainable future. By embedding climate action within development programmes, the Trusts seek to create solutions that are both environmentally responsible and socially inclusive.

Climate Smart Agriculture
and Livestock
The Climate Smart Agriculture and Livestock (CSAL) Programme, operating across 16 states, promotes sustainable farming systems, water security, and better livestock management to improve productivity, adaptability, and income security.
Integrated Natural Resource Management
The Trusts support landscape-level approaches that strengthen the interdependence between land, water, forests, commons, and biodiversity systems. This includes watershed development, low-cost water harvesting structures, groundwater recharge, and improved stewardship of natural resources to enhance water security, landscape restoration, and weather risk preparedness.
Reviving Springs Across the Indian Himalayan Region
Thousands of communities across the Himalayas depend on springs as their primary source of water. The Tata Trusts work with communities to map, assess, and revive these critical sources by restoring recharge zones and reinforcing local stewardship systems.
Urban Heat Mitigation Through Nature-based Solutions
Pilot interventions such as cool roofs and shelters, green roofs and strengthening blue-green infrastructure, alongside reviving traditional approaches such as rejuvenating water bodies, passive ventilation, and community green spaces, to reduce heat exposure in vulnerable communities.
