Art Education

Art education anchors the Tata Trusts' approach to supporting education in the arts (and not necessarily using the arts to educate) through innovative courses, exhibition-making as legitimate pedagogy, archives as resources for research, and platforms (both national and local) for community representation.

Alongside strengthening research, publications and knowledge dissemination, the Trusts are also attempting to integrate disability and gender as cross-cutting considerations across arts programmes.

The Trusts have supported the 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2025 editions of the Students' Biennale and established the Tata Trusts Students’ Biennale International and National Awards, offering promising students and student-collectives opportunities to hone their artistic practice through travel exposure and residency programmes. The latest edition featured more than 70 artworks by over 100 students that were exhibited across six venues in Fort Kochi, Kerala from December 2025 to March 2026. This partnership has helped the Students' Biennale evolve into a nationally significant platform, earning international recognition while expanding opportunities for emerging Indian artists.
