Recognising that many young players associate sports careers primarily with professional competition, Tata Trusts works to expand their understanding of the opportunities available across the wider sports ecosystem. This begins by strengthening the capabilities of those who shape sporting journeys at the grassroots. By investing in coaches, trainers and other support personnel, the initiative enhances the quality of training and strengthens the delivery of sport at the community level, creating stronger foundations for organised sport.
Alongside this, young people and former players are introduced to a wider spectrum of careers, from coaching and sports science to operational and programme management roles. Former athletes are supported in transitioning into these professions, enabling them to build sustainable livelihoods while continuing to contribute their experience to the sporting ecosystem.
S.C.O.R.E-Sports Career Orientation, Readiness and Empowerment-is a framework developed to help young people understand the full range of opportunities in sport, build the skills they need, and find real pathways to work. For athletes training in high-performance environments, academic support complements their sporting journey, helping them balance education with competition and meet essential learning milestones.
The project began by creating awareness around the growing range of careers within the sports ecosystem. Through digital outreach and institutional partnerships, it connected with colleges and sports associations, enabling participants to discover opportunities that extended beyond traditional sporting roles.
